ABOUT STREETBOARDING

About Streetboarding

Intro:

Streetboarding was invented almost 20 years ago and has evolved from a fusion of skateboarding and snowboarding into an original and unique action sport.
The board looks like a slightly longer snowboard width skateboard with a snowboard style binding system
.

Streetboarding is a urban snowboard for the streets and skateparks
It’s a very addictive sport with dedicated riders

Why Streetboarding?

It’s a fun and addictive sport that thanks to the latest board designs is inventing its own unique moves and tricks

It can be ridden on any urban terrain, flat ground, ramps / skateparks, drop offs, handrails or down hills. There is nowhere the board cannot be used

  1. The feeling of riding the flat ground or going down hill, grinds, jumps or freeriding combining all aspects of the sport
  1. It’s proven to be a great cross trainer for snowboarding improving the rider’s technique and balance in the summer months
  1. Streetboarders beginning snowboarding learn faster than skateboarders or surfers because the sports as so alike
  1. The board will also appeal to those who like board sports or who just want to do something different

THE BASICS 1MIN VIDEO

What the rider can do

Learning to jump is easy

Carve turns like snowboarders

Jump like snowboards thanks to the binding system

The board is light and maneuverable in the air, much more so than mountain boards

Any slide or grind done on skateboards is possible but is easier thanks to the wider grinding and surface area

Thanks to being strapped in trick progression rate is fast, new riders can jump right away without having to learn to Ollie

As riders advance they soon learn grinds and 360s

Average riders do tricks like 360s down steps, smith grinds and even 540s in mini ramp

Advanced riders are doing handrails over 20 steps and up to 35 steps. Rodeo flips even switch rodeos on ramps.

The freestyle level is catching up with snowboarding already with 1080s and backside rodeos

Streetboarders are now starting to combine flips and grinds with backflips being done into and out of grinds. Even rodeo 5050s in half pipe

Streetboarding uses the tricks of skateboarding and snowboarding and links them together. Tricks never done before in any board sport are being done and the possibilities are only just starting to be seen

The Movement and Feeling

Simply moving the board along is fun and addictive.

A rider moving along looks like a snowboarder doing turns on a hill.

When pushing into these turns the special axle system forces the board forwards

The system means the rider never needs to step off the board to move forward.

Because of this the rider can strap into bindings and stay permanently attached to the board.

Speeds of 20 Mph are possible on the flat and the board can even be powered up hill.

Stopping is also done by simply turning the board sideways so the rider can stop instantly.

It is easy for the rider to control speed on a hill by carving like a snowboarder.

Falls are not a problem as the rider learns to roll naturally.

Once the technique is learnt the rider has total control over the speed and direction the board is traveling in.

The feeling of riding along is a very fluid and satisfying sensation requiring only a small effort.

Being strapped in gives the rider a feeling of being at one with the board.

HOW TO SET UP BINDINGS VIDEO 2MINS

HOW TO SET UP YOUR SOFT BINDINGS

How to correctly set up your Softcore Bindings.

By Adam from Flipside Boards

This is by far the most important factor in your boards strength, where you place your feet dictates where the pressure of your landings is going to go. So of course, it's important to make sure they are placed correctly. This article aims to make it a bit clearer with pictures and to show people thinking of starting how easy it is.

Stage 1 – Gather the Parts

Firstly, you will need a 3/8th inch spanner and a Philips head screwdriver to be able to fit your bindings. In your pack you should have all the fitting hardware - 8 bolts, 8 washers, 8 nuts, 2 left side straps and 2 right side straps

You may find this process easier if you connect the heel strap up first as shown below so you know you are bolting them in the right way round.

Stage 2 – Foot Placement

Your feet want to be directly centred over the Kingpin bolt and truck axle so that the shock is absorbed through the trucks. Too far either to the outside or inside of your crossbar will put unnecessary pressure on your bar and could cause it to break prematurely.
Place your foot on top of the kingpin and truck axle area, then place one side strap snug up against your shoe. Using one of the included washers, place it on top of the strap matching the hole in the strap, place up against your shoe and bolt in place in the desired hole on the footplate.

Stage 3 – Bolting Up

It is important to put your bolts in from underneath the footplate and up out through the top through the strap, washer and then the nyloc nut. Placing your bolt this way round will prevent your board catching when you are trying slides on your footplates.

Repeat this process for the other hole on this side and tighten, so that one side strap is now fixed.

Then wrap the heel strap around the heel of your shoe (you will most likely need to adjust the heel strap's length so that your foot stays in its desired place and the holes on the straps match the holes on the footplates).

As before, repeat the process of fitting the strap to the footplate and tighten it down. You should now have one footplate fully set up.

Stage 4 -- Strap Adjustments
If you find the main foot strap is too tight to fit over your shoes, the bindings have 3 separate holes so you can adjust the size of the strap to make it fit perfectly. Likewise, you may find the initial set up is too big; therefore you can make it smaller. You may also want to try tightening the laces on your shoes for an extra snug fit.

All that is left to do now is to repeat this process again for your other foot.

Make sure all the bolts are tightened securely (including the one's holding your bindings together).

And finally some tips….

Some riders prefer to ride with their feet pointing outwards; this is called "Duck Stance".

If you prefer to ride like this you need to try as best you can to make sure an even amount of your foot is on either side of the kingpin to try and distribute your weight evenly. It is not guaranteed that riding in this stance will make your bars last as long; it really depends on the rider. Another thing to take into consideration with this stance is it can allow for you to be more prone to knee and ankle injuries due to the extra pivoting space on twisted landings.

To make your bindings last longer - always do them up after skating. This will at least double your bindings' life.

Now get out there and skate!
